Teachers in Scotland are among the best-paid in the world, with salaries outstripping those in some of the richest countries, according to figures compiled by a leading international agency.
Newly qualified staff in Scotland earn the equivalent of $42,280, which is the third-highest in the G7 group of wealthy nations.
Graduate salaries outstrip Japan, France, Italy, Canada, the European Union average and dozens of countries ranked by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Only Germany and the US, which have significantly larger GDPs per head, pay their graduates more, according to the OECD.
Experienced frontline teachers earn above the EU and OECD averages, while top-earning head teachers in Scotland and England are the highest-paid in the G7.
